From 10th to 21st October, 2026, a Regional Coordinating Unit team of the Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Niger Basin (PIDACC/NB) is assessing the progress made in implementing the PIDACC/NB-Nigeria Component. The mission will visit some project achievements, discuss with stakeholders the challenges encountered and measures to be taken to improve the Programme’s implementation.

PIDACC Nigeria Spervision
A delegation of the Regional Coordinating Unit of the Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Niger Basin (PIDACC/NB) taking a technical and financial supervision mission in Nigeria. Comprising the Regional Coordinator, the Regional Monitoring-Evaluation Expert, the Administrative and Financial Officer, the Programme Accountant and a Translator of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA), the delegation is monitoring the activities of the national component from 10th to 21st October, 2026.

On 12th October, the delegation was received by the PIDACC/NB National Coordinator, Mr BABA Musa, and outlined the objectives of the mission: review the progress made in implementing activities, identify the difficulties hindering implementation and propose solutions to improve the Programme’s performance.

Discussions with the national team also led to the adoption of the mission’s agenda. The National Coordinating Unit presented the status of the implementation of the recommendations from previous supervision missions by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the NBA, as well as the results achieved from the Programme’s launch to 30th September, 2026. The status of the 2026 Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWPB) was also reviewed.

The mission will then undertake field visits from 14th to 17th October, 2026 to assess the physical outcomes. At the same time, the teams responsible for financial management will analyse the achievements together with their national counterparts. The field visit results will be communicated later on.

Implemented across the nine (9) NBA member countries - namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Chad - PIDACC/NB aims to strengthen regional integration and the resilience of communities and ecosystems. Its interventions focus in particular on the control of the silting up of the River Niger and its tributaries, the shared management of water resources, adaptation to climate change, capacity building and the rehabilitation of navigable stretches.

The cost of the Programme is estimated at 145 billion CFA francs, funded by the AfDB and its partners. An additional funding of 24 million euros is provided by German Financial Cooperation through KfW. The amount of the PIDACC/NB-Nigeria Component is 27,157,600 USD, i.e. 15,243,289,304 CFA francs.
